Creating Rollover Effects Using Variables For MotionArtist 3How to create a rollover effect using variables, one of the new features in MotionArtist 3.0. How to create a rollover effect using variables. Insert 2 objects onto canvas by dragging and dropping them from the Parts Palette. Object 1 is Mr. Mallet and Object 2 is Mr. Crab. Select Object 1, Mr. Mallet, by clicking on it and Right Click your mouse button to select its Properties.
Follow Steps 1-7 below:
- Step 1 - Click on Variable in Properties dialogue box
- Step 2 – Select the Set Value when Roll-over checkbox
- Step 3 – Click on Settings
- Step 4 – Click on Add in the List of Variable Settings dialogue box
- Step 5 – Variable should be on Variable1, Select the Set the Value checkbox in the Variable Settings dialogue box
- Step 6 – Insert the Value 1
- Step 7 - Close all of the Open dialogue boxes by Clicking on [OK], [Close], [OK], [OK]
At this point you're back on the canvas. What you've done is set the Value in Variable1 to 1 whenever the mouse pointer is rolled over Object 1, Mr. Mallet (that is whenever you are Previewing or have created the SWF output. Now what we want to do is show Object 2, Mr. Crab, whenever a mouse pointer is rolled over Mr. Mallet, Object 1. Follow the instructions below:
- Step 1 - Select Mr. Crab, Object 2 by clicking on him, and Right Click your mouse button to select his Properties.
- Step 2 -Mr. Crab's Properties show up, Click on Variable.
- Step 3 – Select the Show/Hide by Variable Value checkbox
- Step 4 – Click on Settings
- Step 5 – Click on Add in the List of Conditional Settings dialogue box
- Step 6 – Variable should be on Variable1 in the Variable Settings dialogue box
- Step 7 – Select the Equal to checkbox
- Step 8 – Insert the Value 1
- Step 9 – Select True for conditions
- Step 10 - Select the Show checkbox
- Step 11 - Close all of the Open dialogue boxes by Clicking on [OK], [Close], [OK], [OK]
Now, all your work is done. When Object 1, Mr. Mallet, is rolled over Variable1 is set to 1, Object 2, Mr. Crab, is shown whenever Variable1 is Equal to 1. So if you roll over Mr. Mallet, his friend Mr. Crab shows up. To get Mr. Crab to disappear when you roll off of Mr. Mallet, follow the instructions below:
- Step 1 – Select Mr. Mallet and Right Click him
- Step 2 - Select Properties
- Step 3 - Click on Variable in Properties dialogue box
- Step 4 – Select the Set Value when Roll-off checkbox
- Step 5 – Click on Settings
- Step 6 – Click on Add in the List of Variable Settings dialogue box
- Step 7 – Variable should be on Variable1, Select the Set the Value checkbox in the Variable Settings dialogue box
- Step 8 – Insert the Value 0
- Step 9 –Close all of the Open dialogue boxes by Clicking on [OK], [Close], [OK], [OK]
Then:
- Step – 1 Select Mr. Crab, Object 2 by clicking on him, and Right Click your mouse button to select his Properties.
- Step 2 -Mr. Crab's Properties show up, Click on Variable.
- Step 3 – Select the Show/Hide by Variable Value checkbox
- Step 4 – Click on Settings
- Step 5 – Click on Add in the List of Conditional Settings dialogue box
- Step 6 – Variable should be on Variable1 in the Variable Settings dialogue box
- Step 7 – Select the Equal to checkbox
- Step 8 – Insert the Value 0
- Step 9 – Select True for conditions
- Step 10 - Select the Hide checkbox
- Step 11 – Close all of the Open dialogue boxes by Clicking on [OK], [Close], [OK], [OK]
